C’est un tableau de consultation statique : chaque ligne associe une extension de fichier à la valeur Content-Type (type MIME) qu’un serveur web envoie pour elle. La page n’a ni champ de saisie ni script propre : les valeurs font partie du document que le navigateur affiche.
Chaque ligne porte une extension et la valeur Content-Type qu’un serveur envoie pour elle. La colonne des extensions garde le point initial, et la première ligne couvre les fichiers de type inconnu : ils sont servis en application/octet-stream.
Le tableau répétait des lignes donnant deux valeurs différentes à une même extension : .jpg, .png, .tif, .xls, .ppt, .vsd, .vst, .ico, .jpe, .ps, .eps, .mdb, .dwf et .pdf apparaissaient deux fois, et .tif trois fois. Chaque extension n’apparaît plus qu’une fois, et une ligne listant l’extension « . » avec la valeur tronquée application/x- a été supprimée.
Les valeurs des formats très utilisés ont été corrigées à partir de la correspondance nginx et de la base mimetypes de Python : .js, .mp3, .mp4, .svg, .bmp, .avi, .rtf, .xhtml et .m3u affichent désormais text/javascript, audio/mpeg, video/mp4, image/svg+xml, image/bmp, video/x-msvideo, application/rtf, application/xhtml+xml et audio/x-mpegurl. .class et .java portaient le joker java/* et portent maintenant application/java-vm et text/x-java-source.
Quarante-quatre extensions absentes de l’ancienne liste ont été ajoutées, dont .json, .zip, .gz, .csv, .md, .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, .odt, .epub, .webp, .avif, .heic, .woff, .woff2, .wasm, .yaml et .webmanifest. Leurs valeurs viennent du fichier mime.types de nginx et de la base mimetypes de Python ; lorsque les deux sont muets, c’est le type enregistré auprès de l’IANA qui est retenu, par exemple text/markdown pour .md, application/yaml pour .yaml et .yml, et application/ld+json pour .jsonld. Au total, le tableau liste 372 entrées.
Les entrées historiques de l’ancienne liste ont été conservées, car des extensions comme .wk4 ou .wq1 apparaissent encore dans des journaux de serveur et des fichiers de configuration. Ces lignes affichent l’écriture importée : les valeurs préfixées par x- sont donc à lire comme héritées.
L’en-tête Content-Type est décidé par le serveur, pas par le fichier : le même .txt peut être envoyé en text/plain ou en application/octet-stream selon la configuration, et un navigateur peut ignorer l’en-tête lorsqu’il reconnaît lui-même le contenu.
Servez-vous du tableau pour la consultation et pour écrire une configuration, puis contrôlez les en-têtes de réponse pour voir ce qui est réellement envoyé. Pour inspecter un fichier que vous avez déjà, le détecteur de MIME et de signature de ce site lit ses premiers octets et indique le type probable.
